1. When the office of the Chief Justice of India is vacant or when the Chief Justice is unable to perform the duties of his office due to absence , the President shall appoint an Acting Chief Justice from among the judges of the Court to perform the duties of the Chief Justice -LRB- article 126 -RRB- .
   जब भारत के मुख्य न्यायमूर्ति का पद रिक्त हो या जब अनुपस्थिति के कारण मुख्य न्यायमूर्ति अपने पद के कर्तव्यों का पालन करने में असमर्थ हो तो राष्ट्रपति न्यायालय के अन्य न्यायाधीशों में से एक कार्यकारी मुख्य न्यायमूर्ति नियुक्त करेगा और वह मुख्य न्यायमूर्ति के कर्तव्यों का पालन करेगा ( अनुच्छेद 126 ) .
